Description

Discover the Saint-Denis basilica and the way French cathedrals were built back in the 12h and 13th centuries.

The Centre des monuments Nationaux, or CMN, – the French center for national monuments – is in charge of the full operation and take care of the visitors of the unique architectural and historical heritage brought by the Basilica Cathedral of Saint-Denis. In collaboration with the CMN, the association Suivez la flèche (« follow the spire ») is conducting the reconstruction of the Spire, destroyed in 1846 due to several storms. Saint-Denis is known for its famous basilica, but also for its rugby village dedicated to the Rugby World Cup 2023: many international tournaments take place in this city!

Right at the heart of the Rugby World Cup context, you will have the occasion to discover its French historical and architectural heritage.

Your experience will begin with a guided tour of Saint-Denis Basilica-Cathedral, a Gothic gem and royal necropolis. After immersing in the history of architecture and sculptures, you will experience first- hand the skills of the stone carvers, who built this monument centuries ago: grab their tools and carve your own stone!

Under the guidance of the mediators of the association, each participant will be able to create a bas relief, featuring the flag of your team, your country and bring it back home as a vivid memory of your stay in France.

One last question remains unanswered : who between the roosters, roses or wallabies will be the most sculpted? It’s up to you to increase the numbers to win the fans' challenge!

If you enjoy the sport sector, come check the other visits in Paris on the same topic!
