Philippe de Sousa has become the reference for Portuguese guitar in France. After learning the instrument with Carlos Gonçalves, who accompanied singer Amália Rodrigues, Philippe de Sousa continues to perpetuate this tradition, offering an instrumental repertoire based on Fado and the Portuguese guitar, the emblematic instrument of the genre.

This traditional urban song emerged in Lisbon and is still heard in its neighborhoods. The renowned singer Amália Rodrigues made this two-century-old song famous.

April 27: Traditional Fado with Joana Pereira

Joana Pereira is a traditional fado singer. Originally from Porto, she took her first steps on the fado scene in her native city before making her mark in Paris. Following the Amalia Rodrigues lead, she performs fado with her personal sensibility. She carefully chooses the texts she performs, as the force of the words and the poetry are important for her.
She will be accompanied by Philippe De Sousa on Portuguese guitar, and Helder Jardim on classical guitar.
