Art Nouveau, Art Deco, on the traces of the old Auteuil village

Description

Paris is renowned for its Haussmanian architecture, but its Art Nouveau and Art Deco buildings are not to be underestimated.

Head for the 16th arrondissement and beyond the Trocadero, where architectural marvels can be seen. Like Montmartre and Belleville, Passy and Auteuil were once villages inhabited by both a modest population and aristocratic families who built vast mansions on huge estates.

In the first half of the 20th century, the owners went in search of renowned or up-and-coming architects to give them carte blanche for projects that asserted their architectural identity.

Hector Guimard, Auguste Perret, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Le Corbusier, Pierre Patout - they all built here. Especially, during this visit in the antique village of Auteuil, you will discover the wonderful heritage left by Guimard, so little enhanced, so little known.

Almost frequented only by local residents, this walking tour will firstly be calm and soothing: you'll feel that you're not quite in Paris any more!

If you are a fan of parisian achitecture and particularly Art Deco and Art Nouveau, come check the other visit of Le Vrai Paris, in the village of Passy.
