Description

It was in October 1943 that the sociologist couple Karl and Jenny Marx moved to Paris. It was here that Karl met Engels and together they formed the well-known duo that revolutionised economic thought.

This first stay ended with his expulsion, and Marx travelled between Belgium and England. The revolution of 1848 allowed him to return to Paris from time to time. During these early years of exile, Marx's thinking evolved in response to what he saw and who he met, intellectuals and revolutionaries.

Anecdotes about theses encounters will offer you a fascinating immersion in Marx's world and the beginnings of Marxism. Behind the touristy, opulent Paris of today, you'll discover the working-class, revolutionary Paris of the 1840s, the influence it had on Marx and the often difficult links with the French socialist movement.
