Description

The classic perspectives of this French formal garden (jardin à la française) are a perfect illustration of André le Notre's landscaping genius (he also created the Versailles Palace gardens).

Formerly owned by Jean-Baptiste Colbert, France's most notorious Minister of Finance (under Louis the XIVth), this property is a trove of delightful discoveries: the Pavillon de l’Aurore and its famous dome, painted by Le Brun; the magnificent orangerie designed by Jule Hardouin-Mansart; and its superb stables.

Built in the 19th century, the castle houses valuable art and historic collections.
