Since the first years of the 20th century, behind neons, famous cabarets and mill houses, Montmartre already hosted a rich homosexual life. This visit presents the codes, figures, important places and moments of this other Montmartre, usually unknown.
Around 1900 and for about 50 years, Montmarte was the front stage of the Parisian homosexual nights. The cabarets, bars and music-halls of this quarter were known to be places to find the emancipated people, who assumed their sexuality. Even though these places were often the stages of big scandals, the district also hosted homosexual artists and intellectuals.
This tour will also analyse the years after war until the 70’s. The guided visit proposed by Paris Gay Village will give you a new unknown vision of this famous district of the north of Paris.
Paris Gay Village is an organization which has been proposing walking tours about homosexuals and homosexuality in Paris for 15 years.
